I don't necessarily go in search of cookies, well, not always. Sometimes I just stumble across them while conducting my daily business. Most times if it is some place I've not tried before I'll plop down my dough and give them a shot. Such was the case with Tout Sweet Patisserie. It's not a new place and I'm not talking about the space open at Macy's downtown. I'm talking about their small pop-up tent that hits the farmer's markets at the Ferry Building on some days.
I've been by the big Macy's location, but for whatever reason hadn't really taken the time to nosh. Usually I'm hitting up the Christmas shop, but that's another story. This time around I walked by, saw the cookie and sidled up for a Guittard chocolate chunk cookie with sea salt.
At $2.25 it's not the biggest cookie circumference wise and also kind of thin. It does have plenty of chocolate inside though, nice chunks you taste clearly. Because it's thin it does run on the crispy side which isn't my fave thing but it wasn't totally biscotti like either. There is also a generous sprinkling of sea salt--which, and I can't believe I'm actually saying this--because the cookie is so thin and not all that sweet to start with the, the salt was a little much. Yeah, I know, I normally veer toward the salty sweet thang, but this was just a tad too much--though just a tad.
Okay, so this ain't a bad cookie by any stretch of the imagination, it's definitely an improvement over the last batch I powered through, that's for sure. It has moments of flavor, mostly chocolate and that salt. The cookie part itself I can't say I tasted much due to the other two overriding tastes. Ultimately it comes down to total package and for me I was ho-hum. For you, you may think different. This is one of those kind of cookies that could go either way for people, some folks will like it and some folks won't. Too crispy, not chewy enough, too much salt, not big enough for $2.25--that puts me in the won't group. I'll have to check out the full shop at Macy's soon, I mean one cookie don't stop this show, or me from having other desserts. Ugh, that didn't make too much sense, sugar rush, too many cookies, need to lie down now.
