Places I've Eaten

Himalayan Pizza & Momo, because why not?!

It is the dog days of summer and with the heat (for SF) and wind comes an inherent laziness to not really want to do much. Particularly when you work all day and then come home and collapse on the couch, the last thing you want to do is cook something, let alone, post anything. Thus my excuse for the intermittent blogging. Sure, not the best way to get a following, but sometimes the creative mind doesn't flow and I just let it carry me downstream to sloth land!

Though an upside to couch potato-ness is you can use your laptop to surf for food delivery without barely lifting more than a few fingers. Of course, in my case as we all know, the trick is finding something which will sate my hunger in this particular moment. There are any number of food delivery sites I'm signed up with and the SO is like, just tell when the food gets here. Must be great to be able to eat anything! Fortunately it did not take too terribly long before I came across Himalayan Pizza & Momo. Hmmm, yak meat on a pizza? Well, sadly not quite a bizarre food but a Nepalese/Indian spot that also happens to serve pizza, sandwiches and burgers. I can work those and in the moment, it seemed like a good idea to just go ahead and get the restaurants name: The Himalayan Pizza with a side of momos (basically a Nepalese pot sticker).

chicken momos $10.99

They offer chicken or veggie and in steamed or pan fried versions. The pan fried is $1 more for some reason and since I like fried, I paid the upcharge and got the chicken ones. You get ten hand made dumplings lightly browned on the outside. They weren't necessarily pan fried crispy but it was delivery so I was good they were still warm. Inside is ground chicken, onions, what looks like some green leafy thing like spinach and mix of spices akin to curry with enough of a kick to make them interesting. As dumplings go, they were pretty good and we liked them. The also come with a chutney like dipping sauce which I was not a fan of but the SO liked. It was a tad on the bitter side on my tongue, probably one of the spices in it like anise or something. I just skipped it as they were fine as is with what is already inside.

vegetable pakodas $4.99

Of course, we couldn't pass up some vegetable pakodas. I'm a big fan of these and will always order them if they are on the menu. These turned out to be large balls ground veggies coated in chickpea batter and deep fried. YUM! They were actually still kind of hot and a bit crispy when they arrived which is just a plus. For $5 you six or seven large pieces with a side of that tasty tamarind dipping sauce. These turned out to be better than expected and I'd definitely get them again.

Himalayan Pizza $18.99

Which brings us to the main event, the Himalayan Pizza itself. We got the 14 inch which is eight slices because we were hungry. Turns out it is tikka masala sauce, tandoori chicken, purple onions, mozzarella cheese and Himalayan spices--whatever those are. Sometimes I have found with tandoori chicken it can be dry, but here, it isn't and you definitely get plenty of it. There is also plenty of cheese and onion, though the one thing I might could have used a bit more of was the tikka masala sauce. I mean, it is there but in a light touch essence of kind of way. I'm not always the biggest fan of tomato sauces and like alternatives and the idea of tikka is great. I just wanted more of it. The crust was of the pillowy focaccia type with a nice little buttery crunch which worked well with the toppings. Barring the skimp on sauce, all together, this was really good and I will add it as one of my new favorite types of pizza.

Technically we didn't really go out on a limb with some bizarre food thing, it is after all pizza....and momos and pakodas---and not exactly yak. Still, I'm glad we took a chance on Himalayan Pizza & Momo as the food was good and the delivery was quick, both bonuses for a lazy couch potato slug in this long (semi) hot summer. And triple bonus--I posted about it!
